How Divorce Brought Me Back to Christ

I never expected to be divorced at 33, but here I am. I had been with my ex-husband on and off for years. I was sure we would be together forever.
I idolized him; he quickly took the place of God in my life. I hate to say that now because it sounds so bad. But it has been the reality of my life for many years.
When I went to rehab, my husband cheated on me. I was so angry at him. I was angry that he had brought women in and out of the house we shared, and I was angry that he cared more about pleasing his flesh than he did about me.
I couldn't understand how he could cheat while I was off getting help for my addiction. When I returned, I kicked him out and started the painful journey through divorce. I felt worthless.
I was tired. I was broken. I needed to understand.
I filed for divorce on July 15, 2025. One morning, I hit my knees in front of my couch. My bible on the cushion, I remember crying and saying why did he do this to me? Why didn't he love me? I asked the Lord.
What happened next changed my life forever. Suddenly, I felt a love I had never felt before. The love of Christ engulfed me. I found the love I had searched for my entire life. Immediately, the Lord put a verse on my heart, and I looked it up.
The verse was Proverbs 18:22 (NLT), "The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord." I sat there stunned. What did this mean?
Now I understand what that verse meant. The Holy Spirit was telling me that my ex-husband wasn't ready to find his treasure. He was searching for a woman who would fulfill his worldly needs, not one from the Lord. The more I've pondered on this, the more I understand that, like me, my ex-husband needs a Savior.
My addiction led me to the foot of the Cross. My divorce led me to the open arms of Jesus. My life has changed drastically, and I owe it all to the One who died and rose again to set me free.
An Invitation to You
I want you to know that you are never too far gone for God's love. You are not worthless. You are not useless. Jesus Christ died for you, and he wants to set you free.
If you are reading this and you do not follow Jesus, I encourage you to repent of your sins and turn to Him. Put your faith in Jesus Christ. If you let Him come in and change you from the inside out, your life will never be the same. It'll change in the best possible way.
Revelation 3:20-21 (NLT) says, "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. (21) Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne."
